Gumamela Earrings (2 colors available)
The Gumamela Earrings, designed with the gumamela in mind, or what is also known as "hibiscus," or "rose mallow" is a flower that resonates with a lot of Filipinos' childhood -- crushing flowers to create a sticky liquid that can be used to blow bubbles. The hibiscus is also known to have medicinal benefits and is also used to make tea.
Each pair consists of one bud and one blossomed gumamela, set on gold-coated stainless steel hooks. This design is available in two (2) colors: pink and red.
This item is meticulously handcrafted and handpainted by Hulma at Obra, a self-taught artist, in collaboration with Risqué's advocacy of promoting Filipino culture and craftsmanship. Please allow some imperfections and variance from the posted photos, as these are all individually handmade.
Trivia: Did you know that the different parts of the gumamela (flower, leaves, roots) have been used traditionally to address various medical concerns, such as inflammation, infections, and pain?
